About me

Born in Liverpool in 1970, from a very early age I knew I was different. I wouldn't mix with other children as they were being silly. I wanted to watch the sport on TV or plan how to travel the world. I loved maps, flags and national anthems. And I still do...

My passion

Travel became an obsession. However in those childhood years, money was tight and trips to Butlins was as good as it got. I remember just before Christmas in 1979, I decided that I didn't just want to travel to every country in the world, but I wanted to do it in alphabetical order. The very next day Russia invaded Afghanistan and I very quickly realised that reality isn't quite like the dream!

My unique journey

My journey is unique. From the days of plotting rail trips, calculating the average speed of the train between stations in childhood, to putting together complex travel itineraries in adulthood, it all meant that I had the skills and knowledge to travel the world. Just one problem remained. Fulfilling the dream requires money.....and a lot of it!

My memories

70 countries visited and counting....the last one being a bit of a technicality, entering the demilitarised zone of North Korea!

However, travel isn’t the only thing I’m passionate about.  I love my sport, particularly major tournaments and have lots of memories to share from these, whether it be mascots or theme tunes.  I have a quirky musical taste and this website is acting as a mini autobiography with all my memories in one place at the touch of a button.  Happy viewing!
